SER. For example, the relative liver weights were elevated approximately 50% following 15 and 52 weeks of administration of 10 mg/kg/day dieldrin via the diet. This increase in liver weight correlated to a roughly 9-fold increase in the specific activity of hepatic p-nitroanisole 0-demethylase activity at both time points. 

MOP induces mixed-function oxidase in mouse liver. This compound clearly induces p-nitroanisol-O-demethylase, but psoralen (2) and 4,2 ,8-trime ylpsoralen failed to induce the enzyme [251,252]. Since coumarins have phosphodiesterase inhibitory activity, it is expected that the intracellular level of cAMP increases after their administration. This situation might induce COH activity and CYP2A5 mRNA levels [253]. 

In intestinal mucosa of fed adult rats, cytochrome P-450 content and activity of benzpyren hydroxylase and p-nitroanisole 0-demethylase were highest in the upper small intestine and progressively decreased toward the terminal ileum (Hoensch etal. 1975). Among the mucosal cell populations, mature villous tip cells contained 6 to 10 times more cytochrome P-450 and drug-metabolising activity per mg nucrosomal protein than epithelial crypt cells. On restriction of dietary iron intake for 48 h, cytochrome P-450 content and drug metabolising activity of villous tip cells decreased to 42 % and 13 % of control values, but were restored within 24 h by oral iron supplementation.
