Nickel spacing

Heating elements operating <760°C are almost always of a chrome—nickel resistance alloy and are ia the form of ribbon, cast alloy, open wire cods, or sheathed constmction. Several alloys are suitable ia this temperature range and all are satisfactory if properly appHed. In general, the more expensive alloys are used when physical space limitations dictate higher watts per area dissipation from the element. [Pg.136]

The methanation reaction is carried out over a catalyst at operating conditions of 503—723 K, 0.1—10 MPa (1—100 atm), and space velocities of 500—25,000 h . Although many catalysts are suitable for effecting the conversion of synthesis gas to methane, nickel-based catalysts are are used almost exclusively for industrial appHcations. Methanation is extremely exothermic (AT/ qq = —214.6 kJ or —51.3 kcal), and heat must be removed efficiently to minimise loss of catalyst activity from metal sintering or reactor plugging by nickel carbide formation. [Pg.52]

Bamboo-shaped tubes. A carbon tube with a peculiar shape looking like bamboo, produced by the arc evaporation of nickel-loaded graphite, is shown in Fig. 8. The tube consists of a linear chain of hollow compartments that are spaced at nearly equal separation from 50 to 100 nm. The outer diameter of the bamboo tubes is about 40 nm, and the length typically several /im. One end of the tube is capped with a needle-shaped nickel particle which is in the normal fee phase, and the other end is empty. Walls of each compartment are made up by about 20 graphitic layers[34]. The shape of each compartment is quite similar to the needle-shape of the Ni particle at the tip, suggesting that the Ni particle was once at the cavities. [Pg.159]

The alloys of from 30% to 40% nickel in iron are noted for their unusual volumetric behavior. For example, it is well known that the thermal expansion of these alloys is anomalously low, with the Invar composition (36-wt% Ni) having a thermal expansion close to zero at room temperature. Furthermore, the atmospheric pressure compressibilities are anomalously large, whereas the atomic lattice spacing and density data show strong departures from Vegard s law in this same composition range. [Pg.115]

Often, to save space, electron configurations are shortened the abbreviated electron configuration starts with the preceding noble gas. For the elements sulfur and nickel,... [Pg.145]
