Nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate

Nickel dialkyldithiocarbamates stabili2e vulcani2ates of epichlorhydrinethylene oxide against heat aging (178). Nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate [56377-13-0] is used as an oxidation inhibitor in synthetic elastomers. Nickel chelates of substituted acetylacetonates are flame retardants for epoxy resins (179). Nickel dicycloalkyldithiophosphinates have been proposed as flame-retardant additives for polystyrene (180—182) (see Flame retardants Heat stabilizers). [Pg.15]

The best heat resistance is obtained when nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate [13927-77-0] (NBC) is incorporated into the compound. NBC contributes to the heat resistance by causing the elimination of unused sulfonyl chloride groups which are then unavailable for additional cross-linking during heat aging. The presence of large amounts of Htharge probably also result in some ionic cross-link formation. [Pg.493]

Also, other nickel compounds have somewhat more unusual uses. For example, the compound nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate (Ni[CS2N(C4H9)2]2) is used as an antioxidant in tires. The rubber in tires reacts with oxygen in the air. When it does so, the rubber gets hard and stiff. The tires begin to break down. An additive like nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate can reduce the rate at which this process occurs. The life of tires is extended. [Pg.381]

FA polysulfide rubber compounds display excellent resistance to ozone, weathering, and exposure to ultraviolet light. Their resistance is superior to that of ST polysulfide ribbers. If high concentrations of ozone are to be present, the use of 0.5 part of nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate (NEC) per 100 parts of FA polysulfide rubber will improve the ozone resistance. [Pg.498]

Nickel quenchers such as nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate [13927-77-0] and 2,2 -thiobis-(4-octylphenolato)-n-butylamine nickel (II) [14516-71-3] deactivate excited chromophores which act as sensitizers for the photolysis of hydroperoxides (24). Once widely used in pp fibers, they have been replaced almost entirely by HALS. Because of their high resistance to pesticides used in greenhouses, these products are widely used in PE agrofilm applications. Their usage is gradually declining, however, because of concerns over the toxicity of nickel. Cytec remains the leading producer of nickel quenchers. [Pg.307]

Sodium polysulfide and bis(2-chloroethyl)formal are used to produce ST polysulfide rubber. Products made from these rubbers exhibit outstanding resistance to gas permeation, ozone, and weathering. When compounded with carbon black the ST rubbers are resistant to UV light and sunlight. The resistance of ST rubber to ozone can be improved by the addition of nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate (NBC) however, this addition can degrade the materials compression set. [Pg.159]

These additives interact with photo-excited polymer molecules and deactivate them by dissipating the excess energy as IR radiations [4]. Metallic complexes, based on Ni, Co, and complexes substituted by phenols, thiophenols, dithiocar-bamates, dithiophosphinates, or phosphates, are used. Typical representatives are nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate or (2,2 -thiobis[4-tert octylphenolato])-n-butylamine nickel and nickel (0-ethyl 3,5-di-te/-f-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) phos-phonate. But their use is not as widespread as for other UV absorbers because they tend to be green [9]. [Pg.199]

When properly compounded, vulcanized Parel elastomer is quite stable in hot air. Nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate (NBC) has been found to be a very effective stabilizer for this rubber. [Pg.123]

Miscellaneous Curatives include piedispersed curative packages, PAPI (a polyisocyanate) and NBC (nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate). Poly-dispersion HC-11 is a curative package based on an activated lead oxide with undisclosed curatives in an elastomeric dispersing agent. This is fine for many applications as it provides simplicity, process safety, bin stability, and adequate rate and state of cure. PAPI... [Pg.328]
