Neutrophils interaction with alveolar macrophages

The interaction of neutrophils with leukoattractants and especially opsonized particles is accompanied by degranulation with the consequent release of lysosomal enzymes and an oxidative burst. A consequence of the respiratory burst is the virtually immediate generation of superoxide anion (Babior, 1984) by the neutrophils and alveolar macrophages.
