Neuromuscular blockers Benzodiazepines

General anesthetics are rarely given alone. In addition to the analgesic agents just mentioned, benzodiazepines (midazolam, Versed diazepam, Valium ) are commonly used as adjuncts for the relief of anxiety, amnesia, and sedation prior to induction of anesthesia. Neuromuscular blockers (e.g., succinylcholine or pancuronium) can also be administered during the induction of anesthesia to relax skeletal muscles. [Pg.204]

There is no obvious explanation for these discordant observations. What is known shows that the benzodiazepines may sometimes unpredictably alter the depth and prolong the recovery period from neuromuscular blockade, but the extent may not be very great and may possibly be little different from the individual variations in the response of patients to neuromuscular blockers. [Pg.118]
