In analogy to reaction (35), neodymium(tris)dibromophosphate, too, could be prepared from trifluoroacetate and POBrg (79). 

One other structure of a tricyclopentadienide has appeared (57) and it provides a further demonstration of the correlation between ionic size and coordination. Neodymium tris(methylcyclopentadienide) crystallizes as a tetramer (Fig. 10). The Nd + ion (which is slightly larger than Sm3+) is pentahapto bound to three cyclopentadienyl rings and monohapto bound to a fourth ring. This fourth ring is in turn j -bonded to another Nd + ion, until the tetramer is generated. The distances between tetramers are those expected for van der Waals contact. The crystal and molecular parameters are compared with the other tris cyclopentadienyl complexes in Table 5. 

A synthetic method for preparing polyisoprene having a cis-, A linkage of 99.0% or greater using diethylaluminium chloride with the rare earth salt neodymium tris(bis (2-ethylhexyl)phosphate) is described. Reproducible Mooney viscosities of 85 and higher were also observed. 

Polybutadiene and random copolymers of butadiene and isoprene both having cA-l,4-isoprene content exceeding 95% were prepared by the author [1,2], respectively, using the catalytic composition of the current invention. Polybutadiene chloride having a cw-1,4-content of not less than 90% was previously prepared by Sone [3] using methylaluminoxane, hydro genated diisobutylaluminum, neodymium tris(bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate), and magnesium.

Coordination Chemistry. The coordinative unsaturation of the three-coordinate derivatives suggests that these molecules should have a rich coordination chemistry. This has not been found, doubtless due to the steric congestion about the metal atom. Neodymium tris[bis(trimethylsilyl)amide] forms pale blue 1 1 coordination complexes with the sterically small Lewis bases B NC and Bu CN. Triphenylphosphine oxide yields a 1 1 complex with the silylamides of La, Eu, and Lu (16).
