Negligence avoidance

Negligence avoidance involves many of the processes involved in risk management but the crucial difference is that the teacher s primary concern is with the prevention of litigation and protection of the self, school and the LEA. In this approach the teacher sees pupils and parents as potential claimants and adversaries. There is emerging evidence that teachers are... [Pg.28]

Other authors believe that as British and European society becomes more aware of legal rights and issues of entitlement, and cases of negligence increase, so negligence avoidance will become the more dominant approach (Laurence, 1988 Gray, 1995). [Pg.28]

In fact a sensor measures a flow and proceeds an integration of across a surface, which operates as a spacial lowpass filter. To avoid a critical deconvolution, the error due to this integration must be kept negligible. [Pg.358]

Suspensions of fine sohds may have pseudoplastic or plastic-flow properties. When they are in laminar flow in a stirred vessel, motion in remote parts of the vessel where shear rates are low may become negligible or cease completely. To compensate for this behavior of slurries, large-diameter impellers or paddles are used, with (D /Df) > 0.6, where Df is the tank diameter. In some cases, for example, with some anchors, > 0.95 Df. Two or more paddles may be used in deep tanks to avoid stagnant regions in slurries. [Pg.1630]

The negligible water absorption avoids the need for predrying granules. The low specific heat (compared with polyethylene) enables the polymer to be rapidly heated in injection cylinders, which therefore have a higher plasticising capacity with polystyrene than with polyethylene. The setting-up rates in the injection moulds are also faster than with the polyolefins so that faster cycles are also possible. [Pg.456]

This result should be vahd for sufficiently high density 0 where correlations, brought about by the mutual avoidance of the chains, are negligible. Due to the recombination-scission process a polydisperse solution of living polymers should absorb or release energy as the temperature is varied. This is reflected by the specific heat Cy, which can be readily obtained from Eq. (9) as a derivative of the internal energy U... [Pg.520]

To prevent/reduce the undesirable condensation in the pump, a small hole is drilled in the pump head to admit air or other process non-condensable gas (gas ballast) into the latter portion of the compression stroke. This occurs while the vapor being compressed is sealed off from the intake port by the piston. By reducing the partial pressure of the vapor s condensables, the condensation is avoided. Obviously, this can reduce the capacity of the pump, as the leakage past the seals allows the gas ballast to dilute the intake volume of ba,se suction gas. For most process applications, the effect of this leakage is negligible, unless the vacuum system suction is below 1 torr [22]. [Pg.397]

An obvious solution would be to undervalue the work done, in order to avoid a claim from the client. The case of Lubenham Fidelities and Investment Co v. South Pembrokeshire District Council (1986) took care of any tendency to undervalue. In that case, the Court of Appeal ruled that the contractor might sue the architect in tort for any damages suffered by him because of the negligent valuation. [Pg.94]

The flow pattern of fluids in gas-liquid-solid (catalyst) reactors is often far from ideal. Special care must be taken to avoid by-passing of the catalyst particles near the reactor walls, where the packing density of the catalyst pellets is lower than in the centre of the bed. By-passing becomes negligible if the ratio of reactor to particles diameter is larger than 10 a ratio of 20 is recommended. Flow maldistributions might be serious in the case of shallow beds. Special devices must be used to equalize the velocity over the cross-section of the reactor before reactants are introduced onto the catalyst bed. [Pg.296]

Experimental isomer shifts, exp, should be corrected for the contribution of soD in order to avoid misinterpretations. The value of (5sod drops with temperature and becomes vanishingly small at liquid helium temperature, because is proportional to the mean kinetic energy of the Mossbauer atom. In practice, sod may already be negligible at liquid nitrogen temperature it rarely exceeds —0.02 mm s at 77 K. At room temperature, 3soo rnay be as large as —0.1 mm s or more (Fig. 4.2). [Pg.82]
