Neck leak

Neck Leaks Excessive Corrosion P.E. over 10% of T.E. Not Plus Marked... 

Sometimes the valve handwheel has worked loose during shipment and simply tightening the handwheel slightly can stop the leak. The dustcap that is inserted into the cylinder valve outlet should also be tightened as a backup should the cylinder valve be accidently opened. Also the cylinder may leak at the threads where the cylinder valve is inserted into the neck of the cylinder. This type of neck leak is difficult to fix on site. If any of these leaks cannot be immediately corrected, then the cylinder should be moved to a hood where the leak can be safely vented, and the supplier of the gas should be notified. 

Note. (1) A conventional capillary air leak, inserted into a side-neck, should only be used in this case if the air supply is pre-dried since the product is susceptible to decomposition by moisture. 

The workers were applying a low-volatile 2, t,5-T butoxy-ethanol ester formulation diluted with fuel oil at 3 gal/100 gal (2% 2,U,5-T acid equivalent). The spray was applied selectively to the lower 3 to U feet of trees and brush in a utility right-of-way using hand-pressurized backpack sprayers (2.5 gal capacity). The applicators wore short-sleeved shirts open at the neck, long pants, no gloves and no hat. One of the backpacks leaked as evidenced by soaking of the applicator s clothing at the lower back. 

A 22-year-old man developed anterior chest and neck pain and surgical emphysema over the neck and chest 8 hours after taking four ecstasy tablets. He had surgical emphysema in the mediastinum and neck and contrast swallow showed a leak at the posterolateral aspect of the mid-esophagus. He was given intravenous fluids and antibiotics. 

Meanwhile melt some paraffine and when the bottle is warm enough not to be cracked by the hot paraffine, pour out the water and pour in the paraffine slowly until it about fills the neck of the bottle. As it cools, press it around the tubes and where the glass and paraffine meet. When cold, pour water into the bottle to detect any leak. If the apparatus is not tight, add more paraffine. It.may be necessary to adjust the position of the platinum strips when the test tubes, C and D, are lowered into the bottle. The electrolysis is accomplished the same as in Exp. 38. A is nearly filled with water containing 10 per cent of sulphuric acid, C 3.r)d D are filled with the same solution and clamped over the platinum strips as shown in Fig. 42. When one tube is full of gas, the current is stopped, the volume measured as in Exp. 38, and each gas is tested with a lighted taper or blazing stick of wood. 

Balloon attachments are easily constructed as outlined in Fig. 9.12. First the balloon (or double balloon) is pushed over a piece of rubber tubing which is about the same diameter as the balloon neck. This is secured in place using a piece of wire, elastic band, or Parafilm. The open end of the tubing can then be attached to a three-way tap, or to a needle-tubing adapter and needle as shown. It is advisable to seal all joints with Parafilm in order to ensure that there are no leaks.
