NBS abrader

In addition, the rotary-platform, double-head abrader is specified for coated fabrics58 and the NBS abrader for shoe soles and heels59. The NBS abrader uses rotating drums with abrasive paper wrapped around them onto which the test pieces are pressed by means of levers and weights, but there is no provision for traversing the test piece across the abradant as in the DIN machine. [Pg.237]

The National Bureau of Standards (NBS) Abrader is a frequently used abrasion tester. Test samples are pressed under a specified load against a rotating drum covered with abrasive paper. The number of revolutions of the drum required to wear away a specified thickness of the test specimen is recorded and compared to the number of revolutions required to wear away the same thickness of a standard reference material (ASTM D 1630). [Pg.217]

Yehoda et al. ° presented a method to catalyze the nucleation and growth of diamond films in MW PACVD without seeding substrates. A thin film of Fe, Cu, Ti, Nb, Mo, or Ni was abraded or deposited onto SiC-coated substrate surfaces. The metal films resulted in varying degrees of diamond nucleation enhancement. A qualitative ordering of the best to the worst nucleating metals was established to be Fe, Cu, Ti, Ni, Mo to Nb at the substrate center (hot area), and Fe, Nb, Cu, Mo, Ti, to Ni away fi om the center (cold Fe exhibiting the most pronoimced effect on diamond... [Pg.125]
