Natural gas utilization

Heavy residues are not always converted. The use of low sulfur light crude and crudes having a reduced ultimate residue (higher ratio of gasoline + distillates/vacuum residue) as well as natural gas utilization has been intensified. [Pg.408]

Heat is transferred by direct contact with solids that have been preheated by combustion gases. The process is a cycle of alternate heating and reactingperiods. The Wulf process for acetylene by pyrolysis of natural gas utilizes a heated brick checker work on a 4-min cycle of heating and reacting. The temperature play is 15°C (59°F), peak temperature is 1,200°C (2,192°F), residence time is 0.1 s of wmich 0.03 s is near the peak (Faith, Keyes, and Clark, Industrial Chemicals, vol. 27, Wiley, 1975). [Pg.2099]

Acetylene is usually thought of as a coke-derived product via calcium carbide. But acetylene, used for vinyl resins manufacture, has been made by partial oxidation of natural gas methane for over a year now in a major installation in Texas, which is now being expanded (6). Moreover, another Gulf Coast plant now under construction will also produce acetylene from natural gas, utilizing this product for acrylonitrile as well as vinyl chloride production (28). These moves represent a momentous advance, pointing to the future entry of natural gas to an even greater degree into aliphatic syntheses. [Pg.293]

Following the discovery of major oil and gas reserves in the early twentieth century, associated gas became plentiful in oil-producing areas, and natural gas began to displace manufactured gas in town systems. However, early natural gas utilization was confined largely to areas at or very near the source of supply... [Pg.911]

The currently available processes for natural gas utilization are shown in Figure 12.1. While conversion of gas to methanol and ammonia has been commercially practiced for decades, the demand for these products is small compared with the overall supply of remote gas. The liquefaction of natural gas to LNG can allow the transport of gas over long distances, but the capital costs for both the on-shore liquefaction and re-vaporization facilities and the cryogenic... [Pg.240]
