Knowledge about the dyes used to color certain products can be helpful. For example, the dyes used to color sheer nylon hosiery are known to include Disperse Yellow 3, Disperse Red 1, Disperse Red 13, Disperse Red 17, Disperse Orange 3, Disperse Blue 3, Disperse Blue 14, and Disperse Blue 124 (Balato et al. 1990a Berger 1984). Because the dyes used differ from country to country and change over time due to fiber and dyestuff development, an inquiry to a trade association servicing the industry would prove useful. The US trade industry for hosiery is the National Association of Hosiery Manufacturers (www.nahm.com nahminc aol.com). [Pg.632]
