Naphthalene, detoxication

The detoxication of condensed thiophenes was also studied (Maxted and Walker, 16) in connection with the possible detoxication of naphthalene prior to its hydrogenation. The nature and relative abundance of the sulfur-containing poisons which are present in coal-tar naphthalene... [Pg.145]

As with naphthalene, the distribution of the sulfur in technical-grade phenol among various types of sulfur-containing catalyst poisons is not very precisely known. The occurrence in phenol of poisons of the thiophenol class would be expected and these should be capable of being detoxicated by a simple oxidation of the type ... [Pg.148]

The mast cells contain granules which are thought to consist of heparin (170). The location of these cells around the capillaries and small blood vessels makes it possible for them to void their granular contents into the perivascular tissue juices, or almost directly into the blood stream. In addition to acting as an anticoagulant, heparin from the mast cells may possibly also be a source of glucuronic or sulfuric acid for detoxication, as indicated by the depletion of the granular substance of dermal mast cells after applications of the toxic compounds phenol, naphthalene and benzene (412). [Pg.21]
