Nanoparticles, weighing

Using Phi as the substrate, the reaction mixture turned from a light yellow solution to a dark brown suspension after 20 min. However, no conversion was observed by GC analysis. We assumed that Pd ions, oxidised from the anode, were in turn reduced to adatoms at the Pt cathode and formed Pd° nanoparticles, ca. 11 nm in diameter (10). After 8 h, the Phi was totally consumed, giving 80% biphenyl and 20% benzene. Weighing the electrodes before and after the reaction showed difference of 2.5 mg in the Pd anode, equivalent to 0.1 mol% of the aryl halide substrate. This corresponds to a TON of 1000 at least (assuming that all the missing Pd participates in the catalysis). [Pg.502]

Quantitative determination of 0 via Eq. (1) is based on the evaluation of the slope of the experimental dependence AS = AS(Np). For nanoparticles, accurate measurements of AS are only possible for Np with contributions to the excluded area not larger than the total area and smallest errors in particle weighing lead to dramatic errors in ft This difficulty can be overcome by the use of (7) in terms of y (second equality). Separation of variables and integration in the ranges (ASo , AS) and (yo y) gives... [Pg.440]

Polystyrene beads were dried in a vacuum oven at 70°C to remove any moisture and then weighed in a beaker on a lab-grade analytical balance having precision of 0.02 mg. Benzene was added to the beaker (5 mL/g benzene, of total weight of PS and carbon nanoparticles). The beaker with polystyrene and benzene was placed on a hot plate and heated at 50°C along with continuous stirring for 7 h. Carbon... [Pg.321]

Industries such as the automotive industry, which must have products of a certain size to function, also will take advantage of nanoparticles and materials. Their use will result in components that weigh less and are stronger because of the manufacturing use of structures such as the carbon nanotube. [Pg.1259]

To assess the influence of various temperatures, the bacteria was maintained and cultured as mentioned above, upon which the unaltered cell extract after adding 1000 tM silver nitrate was incubated at various temperatures including 25, 35, 45, 55, 75, 100 °C separately. Percent theoretical yield of the Ag nanoparticles was determined by taking 1 ml aliquot of the silver nanoparticles suspension was dried overnight at 60 °C, followed by weighing and quantifying the mass of the Ag nanoparticles relative to the Ag ions in the initial reaction mixture. [Pg.226]
