N-Methoxy-3-formylcarbazole

N-Methoxy-3-formylcarbazole (219) C14H11NO2 (M 225.079) (oil) obtained from M. euchrestifolia (59) had a uv absorption spectrum (X- ax [Pg.126]

320 nm) very similar to that of 3-formylcarbazole which was also supported by the ir spectrum (1680 cm ). The H-NMR spectrum showed the presence of all protons of the carbazole skeleton except that of H-9, which was replaced by a signal for a methoxy group (8 4.27). These data led to structure (219) which was also supported by its C-NMR spectrum. The mass spectral data showed peaks at m/z 194 (M-31), 166 (M-31-28) for the loss of methoxy and formyl groups respectively. [Pg.127]

Carbazole, C12H9N, m.p. 225° (1) was isolated from Glycosmis pentaphylla Retz DC (24). It was characterised by its ir, uv and mass spectral data and direct comparison with an authentic specimen of carbazole. [Pg.127]
