N2O4 NITROGEN TETRAOXIDE

Nitrogen oxides, which are mainly released from industrial stacks, include nitrous oxide (N2O), nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), nitrogen trioxide (N2O3), nitrogen tetraoxide (N2O4),... [Pg.71]

The first method has some advantages over the second and is recommended. It distinguishes between NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) and N2O4 (dinitrogen tetraoxide), two distinct compounds that would both be called nitrogen(IV) oxide under the second system of nomenclature. Two of these oxides have common (nonsystematic) names that may be encountered elsewhere N2O is often called nitrous oxide, and NO is called nitric oxide. [Pg.102]

This effect is illustrated by the equilibrium between nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and its dimer, dinitrogen tetraoxide (N2O4) (briefly considered in Example 9.6) expressed by the chemical equation... [Pg.602]

Problem A fuel mixture used in the early days of rocketry consisted of two liquids, hydrazine (N2H4) and dinitrogen tetraoxide (N2O4), which ignite on contact to form nitrogen gas and water vapor. [Pg.96]
