Shallow water plants, many of which have attractive flowers, provide stems for emerging nymphs to climb up and roots where invertebrates can shelter. Examples are buckbean (Menyanthes trifoliata), true forget-me-not (Myosotis scorpioides), and pale yellow iris (Iris pseudacorus).
