Multiracial studies

To provide a critical overview of contemporary multiracialism from the emergence of multiracial studies in the 1980s to the federal race (and ethnicity) classification debates of the 1990s. 

Given this backdrop, my interrogation involves a second order of abstraction. In looking to the field of multiracial studies and the domain of multiracial identity politics since the early 1990s, I am interested in the ways that present-day authors interpret the extant scholarship on race and race mixture (i.e., their reading of the archive) and the arguments that they advance in response (i.e., their contribution to the archive). I do so less to mark advancements in the production of knowledge than to indicate... 

Here we must look to the pseudoconcepts of race and racism on which the multiracial movement and the field of multiracial studies have drawn. To illustrate, we can consider two political manifestos published in close succession at the height of the census debates and that effectively express the premises of multiracialism.
