Nonprotein amino acids may be used as a storage of nitrogen. Seeds and roots of plants, for instance, may contain these substances in high concentration. 5-Hydroxy-L-tryptophan, for instance, accounts for 14 % of the seed weight of Griffonia simplicifolia L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine for more than 8 % of the seed weight of Mucuna mutisiana, and 5-iV-acetyl-L-ornithine for 10 %of the roots of Corydalis cava. [Pg.281]
