Preparative-scale fermentation of papaveraldine, the known benzyliso-quinoline alkaloid, with Mucor ramannianus 1839 (sih) has resulted in a stereoselective reduction of the ketone group and the isolation of S-papaverinol and S-papaverinol M-oxide [56]. The structure elucidations of both metabolites were reported to be based primarily on ID and 2D NMR analyses and chemical transformations [56]. The absolute configuration of S-papaverinol has been determined using Horeau s method of asymmetric esterification [56]. The structures of the compounds are shown in Fig. 7. 

Biodegradation occur either in aerobic or in anaerobic conditions, and as detailed below, it is the most important elimination process in WWTPs. This is an important degradation process for diclofenac, ofloxacin (OFLO), sulfamethoxazole and tetracyclines (TCs) [40]. Several fungi, such as Mucor ramannianus, present in soils, aheady have been shown to metabolize FQs [41].

From the metabolites of 5p,6p dihydroxypresilphiperfolane 2p angelate (488f) using the fun gus Mucor ramannianus, 2,3-epoxyangeloyloxy derivative (488 was obtained (Orabi, 2001) (Figure 20.144).
