Mott formula

The general expression for the diffusion thermoelectric power for a given group of charge carriers is given by the Mott formula ... [Pg.121]

The above results are all for a perfect solid under stress, with a single microcrack inside. For randomly disordered solids, the appropriate modification of the above Mott formula has not been developed yet. However, some quantitative features of the fracture propagation process in extremely disordered solids, like the percolating solid near its percolation threshold, are quite obvious and interesting. Although the (equilibrium) strength erf of the solid vanishes near the percolation threshold Pc erf (Ap) ), the... [Pg.118]

The atomic displacement cross section o that determines the probability of vacancy formation in the CNS lattice can be calculated on the basis of the analytical approximation (McKinley and Freshbach 1948) of the known Mott formula for the Coulomb scattering of relativistic electrons by the atomic nucleus with the charge Z (Mott 1929). Taking into account that 0=(jr - x)/2, this cross section in the laboratory frame of reference is written as follows ... [Pg.481]

TEP experiments on YbCuAl were performed down to low temperatures. By analogy with transition metals, flie low-temperature TEP of 4f instability compounds was interpreted in a crude two-band model of a heavy band and a broad d band according to the Mott formula (Mott 1936). Analysis of the YbCuAl data above 1K in the two-band model clearly reveals the electron-hole symmetry in comparison with cerium compounds (Jaccard et al. 1985, Jaccard and Sierro 1982). [Pg.504]

It is well known that the trade-off between Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity plays an important role in the acquirement of superior thermoelectric materials [1, 24]. Figure 6.6a show the measured Seebeck coefficients of the as-prepared magnetic ions fully substituted quaternary Stannite Cu2XSnS4 (X = Mn, Fe, Co) nanocrystals. As seen from Fig. 6.6a, it is obvious that the positive Seebeck coefficients indicate all the samples behave as p-type semiconductor, and the Cu2CoSnS4 nanocrystals shows the largest Seebeck coefficient. This is based on the Mott formula (Eq. 6.1), which describes the Seebeck coefficient proportional to the... [Pg.97]

The intrinsic electrical conductivity of LiFeP04 is of a polaronic type, as in many ionic compounds. The polaron in the present case is linked to the existence of Fe " ions that maintain the charge neutrality in presence of lithium vacancies. According to the Mott formula, the conductivity a(T) is [116] ... [Pg.227]
