AGATE. Agate is a variety of chalcedony, whose variegated colors are distributed in regular bands or zones, in clouds or in dendritic forms, as in moss agate.

Moss agate. Moss agate is a term applied to chalcedony with black, green or brown branching inclusions. This term is inaccurate, since these are not agates, and the inclusions are not plants. 

Mocca or Mocha Ware. A type of pottery having a brown moss-like or dendritic decoration similar in appearance to the Mocha, or Mecca, stones (brown agates) used in Arabia for brooches. The effect is produced by allowing differently coloured slips to flow over the surface of the ware.
