In the 1950s Morton began to move beyond salt into related chemical niche lines, including bromides, adhesives, and dye stuffs. In 1965 it advanced further afield by acquiring Simonize, a maker of auto wax and cleaners. Then, in 1969, it progressed into pharmaceuticals by merging with Norwich Pharmaceuticals. The venture did not prosper, however, and Morton sold it off to Procter Gamble in 1982. [Pg.170]
