Morphological appearance

In contrast to the particulate-reinforced composites, all other reinforcement morphologies appear to provide enhanced creep resistance. The creep... [Pg.58]

Histopathological features are dominated by the large number of centrally-placed muscle nuclei, sometimes affecting more than 90% of muscle fibers. The nuclei form long chains in the middle of the fiber and are surrounded by cytoplasm, which contains mitochondria and membranous vesicles, but no myofibrils. This morphological appearance has prompted comparison with myotubes, and in fact centronuclear myopathies are sometimes referred to as myotubular myopathies. This is a misnomer, however, since although the affected fibers retain some of the structural features of myotubes, and maturational arrest may play a role in their formation, the vast majority of such fibers are fully differentiated histochemically into either type 1 or type 2. [Pg.294]

Flg.(6). Morphological appearance of PC-12 cells treated for 24 h with vehicle alone (panel A), TNF-a (500 units/ml) alone (panel B), or TNF-a (500 units/ml) plus 10 pM crocin (panel C). In panel D, intemucleosomal DNA fragmentation was detected by agarose gel electrophoresis of DNA extracted from cells treated for 24 h. [Pg.320]

TEM photographs of the modified zeolite with R = 0.05 have been studied. The zeolitic lattice is visible at the beginning of the experiment, but later on, it is destroyed by the electron beam (24). In some cases, crystals with different morphologies appear with no zeolitic particles because they are too large to be inserted in the zeolite lattice. They could contain part or all of the vanadium atoms, which would then be outside the lattice. [Pg.226]

In spite of (Mw/Mn)s = 2.9, the morphology appears to be basically spherical, albeit with considerable connectivity of polybutadiene domains. Moreover, for this blend tan 8max = 0.028, T(tan 8max) = — 88 °C, with virtually no anisotropy in storage modulus, consistent with spherical or short rod-shaped polybutadiene domains. [Pg.288]

The two major types of localized corrosion discussed are pitting corrosion, and crevice corrosion including filiform corrosion. In spite of the different morphological appearance of these two types of corrosion (Figure 6.15), the electrochemical basis of these two types are almost the same. The difference may rise from different causes in the initiation step of pitting or crevice corrosion.25... [Pg.355]

The effects of solvents and their properties on electro-spinnability of the as-prepared polystyrene (PS) solutions and the morphological appearance of the as-spun PS fibers were investigated qualitatively by means of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) in [62]. The eighteen solvents used were benzene,t-butylacetate, carbontetrachloride, chlorobenzene, chloroform, cyclohexane, decahydronaphthalene (decalin), 1, 2-dichloroethane, dimethylformamide (DMF), 1,4-dioxane, ethylacetate, ethylbenzene, hexane,... [Pg.119]

Validity of the method requires that charge and size of the antigencarrying molecules in both samples to be tested and reference solutions are controlled. These molecules have to be physicochemically and immunologically identical. Precipitate morphology provides a clue as to whether these conditions are met The same morphological appearance is necessary. [Pg.204]

A colloidal silica with 10-500 run particles can be prepared by the hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane with aqueous ammonia. The particle morphology appears to be independent of the chemical properties of the silane but depends on the nature of the reaction medium. Large, irregularly shaped particles are produced at lower temperatures using solutions having a high ammonia concentration. Smaller, spherical particles result when the tetraethoxysilane concentration is low. ... [Pg.164]
