Selenium - the atomic number is 34 and the chemical symbol is Se. The name derives from the Greek Selene, who was the Greek goddess of the moon because the element is chemically found with tellurium (Tellus - the Roman goddess of the earth). On another note of interest, she defended her father Ra, the Sun, against his only real enemy, the serpent Apep. 

Unlike ourselves, the people of long ago who worshipped those goddesses observed the Moon carefully and were fully aware of its location. Over time, they discovered that the monthly journey of the Moon as it waxed and waned both reflected and supported the pattern of human activity.
