Monomer trans conformations, hydrogen bonds

The expectation here was the possibility of cis/trans isomerization induced by visible light, and in an attempt to achieve an optimized chain conformation, i.e. the most planar structure, Voight et al. [136] anticipated intramolecular hydrogen bonding of the azo monomer to stabilize a planar conformation.
