Monofilament, oriented

Grootenhuis (Proc. Inst. Mech. Eng. [London], A168, 837—846 [1954]) presents data which indicate that for a series of screens, the total pressure drop equals the number of screens times the pressure drop for one screen, and is not affected by the spacing between screens or their orientation with respect to one another, and presents a correlation for frictional losses across plain square-mesh screens and sintered gauzes. Armour and Cannon (AIChE J., 14,415-420 [1968]) give a correlation based on a packed bed model for plain, twill, and dutch weaves. For losses through monofilament fabrics see Pedersen (Filtr. Sep., 11, 586-589 [1975]). For screens Inclined at an angle 0, use the normal velocity component V ... [Pg.20]

Nylon forms only at the interface of the two immiscible solutions because neither of the reagents is soluble in the other solvent. In addition, the nylon polymer is not soluble in either solvent. The rope pulled from the interface is actually a column of nylon filled with solvent and reagents. After washing and drying, the strand is considerably smaller in diameter. It lacks the strength of something like a monofilament fiber because the molecules in our nylon sample have not been oriented by stretching. In addition, the molar mass of our nylon is probably considerably lower than that of a commercial sample. [Pg.230]

Highly oriented PP monofilaments (drawn to break at 25 ) are more resistant to photo-oxidation than medium drawn fiber ( x5 orientation at 230 C) as measured both by oxidation product build up and mechanical deterioration (2 ). Both types of PP monofilaments also show crack formation during photooxidation CFlgure 7). The lower orientation material shows quite wide, deep cracks whereas the fully oriented fiber shows many short, narrow cracks for... [Pg.334]

Water quenching can be used for wire insulation, tubing, and pipe. Sheet and film extruded from slit dies are frequently crystallized on polished steel rolls operating at 65°C-145°C. Extruded, blown, or flat film can be uniaxially or biaxially oriented to submil thickness. Monofilament is extrusion spun into a water bath, and then oriented and heat set at an elevated temperature. [Pg.2387]

Materials which exhibit a preferred orientation in either the amorphous or crystalline phases reflect this in the wide-angle X-ray pattern. Figure 1.13 shows the wide-angle X-ray pattern for a melt spun monofilament fibre of poly -capralactone obtained using a transnfission system equipped with an... [Pg.27]

Some measurements were made on an unoriented, commercially extruded, isotactic PPH film (25/xm, Enjay chill roll cast) and on an oriented commercial PPH monofilament [150/xm, Amtech Inc., Odenton, U.S.A., 90% residual elongation at break, stabilized with 0.24 wt % octa-decyl 3-(3, 5 -di-ter -butyl-4 -hydroxyphenyl)propionate]. The unprocessed PPH powder also was pressed into film ( 70 /on). All samples were Soxhlet-extracted with acetone (48 hr) and vacuum dried before use. The stabilizer in the commercial fiber was not removed by this treatment, although additives were extracted rapidly from low orientation samples (5). [Pg.63]

Slow cold drawing (X2 at 50% min"1) of commercial (Amtech) monofilament that already was highly oriented had a similar effect on photostability. After cold drawing, filament UV lifetime was 60% of that of the commercial filament, despite the presence of 0.24 wt % of P-2. [Pg.70]

Amorphous polymeric triaxial initiators can be used to produce crystalline, highly oriented, strong monofilaments. [Pg.31]
