Molecular weight polyester resin

The polyesters of desired molecular weight (<10,000) can be obtained by choosing the appropriate reaction condition, such as molar ratio of the reactants (i.e., dimer acid and butanediol), type and concentration of catalyst, reaction temperature, and reaction time. Therefore, the studies were carried out under varied experimental conditions to fulfill the requirements of low molecular weight polyester resins. [Pg.590]

Various low molecular weight polyesters are polymeric plasticizers. These are likely to be compatible with polyester resins. Other groups of plasticizers are also used in plasticization of aliphatic and aromatic polyesters and copolyesters, as follows ... [Pg.303]

An unsaturated polyester resin has two primary components, a polyester containing polymerisable double bonds and a copolymerisable solvent monomer, of which the most commonly used is styrene. Unsaturated polyesters are made by esterification of glycols with mixtures of maleic anhydride and saturated diacids (Structure 9.1). The term alkyd is used to describe low-molecular-weight polyesters, where molecular weight is broadly... [Pg.427]

Easily available commercial polymers which show promising solubilities are polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene. Nylon 6T (polyterphthalamide), polyethyleneoxide and polyisoprene. Some low molecular weight casting resins were examined. The polymer resins Acyloid B72 and B66, polyester PE 20 were soluble in tetrahydrofuran and dimethylformamide but suitable films could be cast from THF. A coating powder was also tested (nylon 11) but was found to be insoluble in all solvents. Solvent mixtures (TFA/DMF, TFA/CHCl and others were tried. [Pg.176]

These resins are low molecular weight polyesters containing ethylenic unsaturation - almost invariably fumarate. They are supplied as solutions in styrene, or occasionally as solutions in another reactive vinyl monomer such as vinyl toluene. [Pg.198]

It was found that the obtained adducts accelerated the cure of UPRs. The efficiency of the tested accelerators was characterized by the gelation time and peak exotherm temperature. The shortest gelation time was obtained for the adduct of p-toluidine and bisphenol A or p,p -dihydroxydiphenylmethane based low-molecular weight epoxy resins. Adducts remained in the polyester resin as permanently bonded fragments and could not be extracted with methylene chloride from the cured UPR. Moreover, products extracted from the crossHnked resins were determined by the chromatographic and gravimetric methods. [Pg.66]

Alkyd resins cured with low molecular weight epoxy resins show excellent adhesion to metal, improved gloss and colour retention and excellent water and chemical resistance. Curing of carboxyl functional polyester (acid number 90) with an epoxy resin enhances the weatherability of the epoxy resins. Basic curing processes involve the reaction of—CO2H or —OH groups with epoxy groups. These reactions will be discussed later in Section 6.3.6. [Pg.931]
