Effects of lanthanide (internal) molecular magnetic fields... 

The little atomic magnets are of course quantum mechanical, but Weiss s original theory of paramagnetism and ferromagnetism (1907) [7] predated even the Boln atom. He assumed that in addition to the external magnetic field Bq, there was an additional internal molecular field B. proportional to the overall magnetization M of the sample. 

It is occasionally desirable to retain a small proportion of molecular orientation, in order to quantitate the dipolar interactions present, whilst minimizing their contribution to the linewidth. Partial orientation may be achieved by using a nematic solvent. In large, magnetically anisotropic molecules it may occur naturally at the highest magnetic fields. 

This is the central Jahn-Teller [4,5] result. Three important riders should be noted. First, Fg = 0 for spin-degenerate systems, because F, x F = Fo. This is a particular example of the fact that Kramer s degeneracies, aiising from spin alone can only be broken by magnetic fields, in the presence of which H and T no longer commute. Second, a detailed study of the molecular point groups reveals that all degenerate nonlinear polyatomics, except those with Kramer s... 

Spin-lattice relaxation is the steady (exponential) build-up or regeneration of the Boltzmann distribution (equilibrium magnetisation) of nuelear spins in the static magnetic field. The lattice is the molecular environment of the nuclear spin with whieh energy is exchanged.
