Modified Marshall method for DGCAs

In this chapter, the design methodology called modified Marshall method for DGCAs, developed by the author, is going to be described in detail (Cabrera and Nikolaides 1988 Nikolaides 1983). [Pg.300]

The methodology is based on volumetric and empirical properties of DGCAs. It has been presented in conferences (Nikolaides 1992, 1993) and has been accepted for use in Greece (MPW D14 1994) and Indonesia (Indonesian MPW 1990). [Pg.300]

The aim of the design method is to determine the target binder content for DGCAs to have a satisfactory and lasting performance. It utilises the Marshall compaction and testing apparatuses and uses volumetric, Marshall and permanent deformation properties, as well as bitumen film thickness. [Pg.300]

Given the suitability of the constituent materials, the methodology consists of two stages. In the first stage, the compatibility of the bituminous emulsion with respect to the selected aggregate is examined and the per cent of added water before mixing is determined. In the second stage, the properties of the cold asphalt are determined for optimum performance. [Pg.300]
