Modified human-lysozymes

Some modified human-lysozymes are designed and obtained by recombinant DNA technology. Some of them are crystalline proteins. The tertiary structures and their active sites have been investigated by means of X-ray analysis and molecular dynamics by computer-graphics as is shown in Figurer 5. [Pg.388]

The interactions between the exogenous chitosan used in a wound and the human cells have been widely investigated (Muzzarelli 1997). Lysozyme, normally produced by macrophages, hydrolyzes the susceptible modified chitosan into oligomers, which activate the macrophages to produce nitric oxide, activated oxygen species, tumor necrotic factor-a, interferon, and interleukin (IL) 1. The activated macrophages increase their production of lysozyme, chitinase, and... [Pg.447]

Quantitative modification of tryptophan in proteins can be achieved readily by using a low molar ratio of reagent to protein. The tryptophan residues of lysozyme, trypsin, and chymotrypsin were fully modified by reacting the protein with 20 equivalents of a freshly prepared solution of 2-nitrophenylsulfenyl chloride in 50% acetic acid (354). Acetate buffer pH 4-5 has been used in the modification of human growth hormone (60), lysozyme (341) and a-lactalabumin (357). [Pg.357]
