Modifications considerations when reviewing

Establishing process safety metrics is not a one-time exercise. They are not cast in stone, never to be revisited. Instead, metrics should be reviewed and revised or even retired as part of the company s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement. One way this can be done is to revisit metrics on a regular schedule when a particular section of the facility or company process safety procedures are reviewed or when a particular metric is consistently met. A revision point allows a consideration of whether it may be possible to deepen the metric, to look for modifications that would take performance to the next level. [Pg.145]

The additives in polymers are analyzed using many different procedures, and many of these procedures require examination of extracts, dissolution of the polymer, chemical modifications of the sample using for example hydrolysis, etc. The analysis of additives especially when they are insoluble can be done successfully using pyrolytic techniques. A number of reports are dedicated to the analysis of additives using analytical pyrolysis [1-3]. However, a considerable volume of work on the analysis of additives using pyrolysis consists of routine procedures in industrial laboratories, and it is not reported in peer-reviewed journals. Also, since most additives are small molecules, a detailed description of pyrolysis studies on additives is not included in this book. [Pg.180]

In the Mitchell hypothesis, electron transfer is coupled to transmembrane movement of protons, and this transport process results in the creation of an electrochemical potential (proton motive force) at the outside of the membrane. When protons return, they do so through a proton channel in the membrane that leads to the H -ATPase, where synthesis is accomplished. Mitchell (1976) has elaborated on the concept of proticity, i.e., proton flow. One key feature of the chemiosmotic theory is the expectation that H /e = H" /ATP, the value of 2 for both ratios being determined experimentally. Reevaluation of experimental data led Brand and Lehninger (1977) to propose a modification of the chemiosmotic theory which accommodated H" /ATP ratios greater than 2 and H" /e = H" /ATP. Stoichiometric considerations of proton translocation have been reviewed by Papa (1976). [Pg.326]
