Modes decomposition into rays

Besides the generators described above there are X-ray sources based on radioactive materials to provide the excitation of the sample. The advantage of using these materials is that an isotope can be selected to provide a mono-energetic beam of radiation that is optimized for the specific application. One method consists to select a radionuclide that is transformed by internal electron capture (lEC). Ideally, the complex should crystallize and its structure be elucidated by X-ray spectroscopy. It gives strong evidence of the coordination mode of the lanthanide ion in solid state, and this structure can be correlated to that existing in solution. One should never forget that the X-ray pattern gives access to the structure of the complex in the solid state and does not take into accoimt the stability of the complex in solntion.
