The decision to move the hypemuclear "Moby Dick" spectrometer to the LESS II beam line made it possible to run experiment E-788, which investigates weak interactions by measuring the non-mesonic weak decay modes of the light hypemuclei experiment... [Pg.2]

The data acquisition software used for hypemucleus experiments on the Moby Dick spectrometer at Brookhaven was an extension of old codes used on a PDP-11 computer. The code was optimized for analysis of the spectrometer data and lacked flexibility. It did not easily allow the extensions required to handle the large amounts of data from detectors added for the lifetime measurements. Since the E788 experiments had well over 300 signal channels in addition to those of the spectrometer itself, it was realized that the data acquisition codes would not be suitable for detailed analysis. For this reason, the IDA package was chosen to form the basis of the online/offline code. Since it is intended to use the IDA framework for the H particle experiment, it was decided that the experience of using IDA for the hypemucleus experiment would be valuable. [Pg.98]
