Mixed metal systems other

These reactions have been studied in detail for materials such as silica, and understanding of reaction mechanisms, as well as of the role of the precursor and catalyst (acid or base), has been well documented.63,64 Similar studies have been carried out in other material systems, most notably, lead zirconate titanate [Pb(Zr,Ti)03 PZT].52,65-68 For multicomponent (mixed-metal) systems such as those noted, prehydrolysis of less reactive alkoxides is sometimes employed to improve solution compositional uniformity. Other synthetic strategies to achieve molecular level mixing of reagents have also been employed. Here, synthesis of mixed-metal alkoxides has been a focus of investigators.40-42 A key point is to restrict the amount of water and to control how it is added to form solubalizable precursor species, rather than to induce precipitation.1,52,69,70... [Pg.42]

Other recent reports have also indicated that mixed-metal systems, particularly those containing combinations of ruthenium and rhodium complexes, can provide effective catalysts for the production of ethylene glycol or its carboxylic acid esters (5 9). However, the systems described in this paper are the first in which it has been demonstrated that composite ruthenium-rhodium catalysts, in which rhodium comprises only a minor proportion of the total metallic component, can match, in terms of both activity and selectivity, the previously documented behavior (J ) of mono-metallic rhodium catalysts containing significantly higher concentrations of rhodium. Some details of the chemistry of these bimetallic promoted catalysts are described here. [Pg.109]

Processes of this kind have some synthetic utility, since they permit exchange of silicon-containing groups from the readily prepared Si-Co compounds to other metal centres. The partial exchange of groups on silanediyl derivatives also provides a route to mixed-metal systems ... [Pg.56]

The potential that HNCC offer is beginning to be realized. It is clear that they have properties and exhibit reaction patterns that differ markedly from their mononuclear counterparts and even low-nuclearity clusters. It is also apparent that their reactivity patterns may be rationalized in simplistic terms and thereby extended to other systems. However, much work remains to be done, particularly in designed synthesis and studies of reaction mechanisms. The ability of these clusters to combine with important small substrates such as CO and Hj need also to be explored in much more detail. The study of the reactivity of large mixed-metal systems, which, as expected, exhibit enhanced and modified reactivities, equally requires more detailed investigation. In fact it would be useful to have available HNCC, which contain early and late transition metal elements, in order to combine both Lewis basic and Lewis... [Pg.207]

Flowever, extreme caution is necessary with mixed chemical systems since many which are thermodynamically unstable exhibit considerable kinetic stability. The kinetic barrier to stability may be overcome if traces of catalyst are present, and result in a violent reaction. The most common catalysts derive from metals, or their compounds, and the unpredictable behaviour of many reactions arises from the unwitting presence of impurities. Other catalysts include acids, bases, organic free-radical precursors, etc. Flence any system must be treated with care which... [Pg.228]

Most accelerators used in the accelerated sulfur vulcanization of other high diene rubbers are not applicable to the metal oxide vulcanization of CR. An exception is the use of so-called mixed-curing system for CR, in which metal oxide and accelerated sulfur vulcanization are combined. Along with the metal oxides, TMTD, DOTG, and sulfur are used. This is a good method to obtain high resilience and dimensional stability. [Pg.432]

The hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl acetate and bis(p-nitrophenyl phosphate) are frequently used to probe hydrolytic activity. A problem with some other dinuclear systems is that the Zn units are held together by bridging ligands which can be cleaved on reaction with the substrate.440 This is not the case in a ditopic ligand such as those designed by Lippard and co-workers based on Kemp s triacid imide with a xylyl spacer.441,442 Both zinc dimers and mixed metal dimers were formed and a structure characterized with a bridging phosphodiester (Figure 6). [Pg.1182]
