Middle aqueous layer emulsions

In the water in oil in water (w/o/w) double emulsions, the internal and external aqueous phases are separated by an oil layer. For their formation and stability, at least two surfactants, one having a low HLB to form the primary water in oil (w/o) emulsion and the other having a higher HLB to achieve secondary emulsification, are required to emulsify water in oil emulsion into water. These anulsion (w/o/w) systems, being less viscous, are excellent candidates for controlled release of hydrophilic drags dne to the existence of a middle oil layer that acts as a liquid membrane. [Pg.1080]

After loading the condensate, the mixture is agitated for 15-20 minutes. The agitator is stopped and the reactive mixture is held for 0.5-1 hours. Within that time the mixture splits into three layers the lower layer is ethyl monochloride the middle layer is emulsion the top layer is aqueous alcohol solution. Ethyl monochloride is slowly poured through a run-down box into collector 9 the emulsion is poured into collector 10 until there is a light layer in the run-down box the aqueous alcohol solution is poured into collector 11. [Pg.444]

The flushing is carried out approximately for 20 minutes. During the flushing the reactive mixture loses sodium chloride, unreacted alcohol and salts of thiophosphoric acid. After agitation the reactive mixture is settled for 1 hour. The bottom layer, methyl monochloride with the density of 1.311-1.321 g/cm3 is poured into collector 14 the middle layer, the water emulsion of monochloride, is sent into collector 15 and then on into apparatus 13 for additional settling the top layer, the aqueous methyl solution with the density of 1.05-1.08 g/cm3 is sent to biochemical purification from collector 16. [Pg.452]
