It is not the purpose of this chapter to provide a detailed explanation and considered comparative argument for the many pre-processing and multivariate data analysis procedures that are used, later chapters in this book and references cited therein provide useful sources to such information the purpose of this section in this chapter was to provide a very brief insight into the uses of the procedures for those unfamiliar with the manner in which mid-IR spectra are used to assign a state of cancer aggressiveness to such as a biopsy or cell sample.
