Microstrainer units

Strain is defined as the deformation of a material divided by a corresponding undeformed dimension. The units of strain are meter per meter (m/m) or inch per inch (in./in.). Since strain is often regarded as dimensionless, strain measurements are typically expressed either as a percentage deformation or in microstrain units. One microstrain is defined as 10-6 m/m or in./in. [Pg.46]

For the present applications it is relevant to ask how accurate is the intersection of the Ewald sphere with the reciprocal lattice point. Each of these points represents a (series of parallel) lattice planes defined by atom positions in the unit cell. The thermal motion of the atoms expands the ideal plane into a slab. Elements of disorder such as microstrain, chemical impurities in lattice positions (substitution, solid solutions), and interstitial atoms producing "chemical microstrain" also expand the lattice planes effectively into lattice slabs of locally varying thickness. [Pg.292]

The hltration medium may be made of perforated plates, septum of woven materials, or of granular materials such as sand. Thus, according to the medium used, hlters may also be classihed as perforated plate, woven septum, or granular filters. The hltration medium of the microstrainer menhoned above is of perforated plate. The hlter media used in plate-and-frame presses and vacuum hlters are of woven materials.
