Microsensors changes

Chapter 12, Explosive Vapor Detection Using Microcantilever Sensors, is representative of a general class of sensors Surface Effect Microsensors that use the change in some mechanical or electrical property of an ultra-small structure to sense and identify a wide variety of molecules. [Pg.390]

Wire that senses pH changes such as antimony metal can be coated with urease (65) and used to determine urea in pure blood (66). Covering the antimony metal with a gas perm-selective membrane (67) improves the selectivity. The microsensors respond from 0.1 to 10 mM urea in 30-45 s. This ammonia sensor has a faster baseline recovery than commercial gas membrane electrodes. [Pg.77]

The Fuel Sniffer Sensor The Fuel Sniffer is a portable fuel dilution meter that can be used in the laboratory or in the field to provide rapid measurements of fuel contamination in engine oil. Developed in collaboration with the US navy, the Fuel Sniffer employs a surface acoustic wave (SAW) vapour microsensor to measure the concentration of distillate fuel in used diesel lubricating oil samples. The sensor quantifies the absorbed hydrocarbons by a change in frequency. The instrument samples the head space in the sample bottle and calculates the percent of fuel... [Pg.485]

The simplest microsensor consists of a pair of electrodes covered by the sensing material and a circuit for detecting changes in resistance. An example of microscale humidity sensor with polyaniline as the sensing material is illustrated in Figure 14.7. [Pg.1576]
