Microgeneration schemes

The simplest way to use renewable energy at home is to switch to a green electricity provider, but if you want to take your green commitment further and the idea of being energy independent appeals, become your own electricity supplier. Microgeneration schemes exist to harness the endless, natural supplies of power from the wind, sun, water, and earth. 

While some microgeneration schemes come close to fulfilling a household s energy needs, it is prudent to have a fail-back option. Most schemes work in tandem with an existing grid connection, which switches on in times of intermittent supply (as in wind and sun) or at peak usage times. This can also work in your favor—if your demand is low and you produce more electricity than you need, you could sell it back to a main grid.
