Microbiological control programs

Merely periodically varying the types of microbiocides employed or adding product more frequently is generally insufficient to provide a well-managed microbiological control program and is seldom an effective solution for biocorrosion control, and may unnecessarily increase chemical treatment costs. [Pg.104]

Thus, for any cooling system under consideration, a planned, comprehensive, but flexible microbiological control program that involves an appropriate degree of monitoring is always required. Flexibility is vital because of the dynamic nature of cooling systems. [Pg.178]

Such protocols as do exist may not always be proven to be sufficiently cost-effective. Although, in general, cooling water treatment chemistry has become considerably more sophisticated over the last two decades, it still remains common practice for microbiological control programs to consist of little more than periodic additions of biocide, based on the day of the week rather than on the proven need for such a chemical. [Pg.179]

The answer to each of these questions is often not immediately forthcoming in summary, unfortunately, each cooling system microbiological control program must stand on its own merits and, consequently, there is no instant answer as to the most suitable nonoxidizer and often no guarantee of immediate success. [Pg.211]
