4-Quinolinol, 2-methyl

Nitriloacetic acid reacts with vanadium-(m). -(iv), or -(v) oxides to form oxovanadatranetrionic acid (38). The crystal structure of [VO(CjQHgNO)2] (CjgHgNOH = 2-methyl-8-quinolinol) has shown that the vanadium atom has a five-co-ordinate trigonal-bipyramidal environment, with three oxygen atoms in the equatorial plane and the two nitrogen atoms of the bidentate ligand in the apical positions. The optimum conditions for the formation of a 1 2 2 vanadium(iv)-morin-4-aminoantipyrine system have been described as pH 5, a tenfold excess of morin (39), and a 3300-fold excess of 4-amino-antipyrine. ... [Pg.45]

VO(oxine)2] (138) and [VO(oxine)2py]-C6H6 (140), prepared by a ligand displacement reaction (equation 61), had v(V==0) = 963 and 945 cm and pcS = 1.75 and 1.64 BM, respectively. When 8-quinolinol is replaced by 2-methyl-8-quinolinol in reaction (61), [VO(2-Me-oxine)2] is obtained, with v(V=0) = 970 cm-1. Complexes (138) and (140) react readily with 02 and a diamagnetic dinuclear pi-oxo Vv species [(oxine)2—OV—O—VO(oxine)2] is produced.826 Nitrobenzene and 2-nitrosobiphenyl also react in a similar manner in THF giving the same complex. With p-benzoquinone a dinuclear diamagnetic Vv complex [(oxine)2OVOC6H4OVO(oxine)2] is obtained. [Pg.552]

The stability constants [470] of La- and Ce-8-quinolinol complexes wese studied in a dioxane-water mixture. Freasieb et al. [471] reported the stability and thermodynamic data for La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd and Er complexes of 8-quinolinol-5-sulphonic acid. These complexes were found to be less stable than those of 8-quinolinol and 2-methyl-8-quinolinol. [Pg.55]

Compounds (20) and (21) undergo electrochemical oxidation to give films of poly(2-methyl-8-quinolinol) and poly(S-quinolinol) on a variety of metal substrates.60 Copper(II) can be com-plexed from aqueous media, but cobalt(II) requires an organic medium. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows the copper(II) complex of films derived from (20) to be complexed to both N and O and also shows that water is absent from the primary coordination sphere. However, for cobalt(II) on the polymer derived from (21), water is present in the primary coordination shell. [Pg.19]
