This study clearly evidences that all the plant sterols tested are able to regulate the membrane fluidity of soybean PC vesicles, with the sterol competence (above 10 mol %) following the order stigmasterol< 24-methyl-pollinastanol - (24R)-methylcholesterol< cholesterol< sitosterol. Further work would be to investigate if such differences in the behavior of the various sterols have a functional significance.
