Die Schmelzpunkte in homologen Reihen (senkrechte Linien auf den Basislinien des Isomeren-Diagramms 6), also die homologen Reihen 4-Methyl-dodecan, 4-Methyl-tridecan, 4-Methyl-tetradecan, 4-Methyl-pentadecan usw. haben fiir die 4 Methyl-, die 6-Methyl-, die 8-Methyl-Reihe altemierende Schmelzpunkte, fiir die 3-Methyl-, 5-Methyl-, 7-Methyl-Reihe aber nicht (80).

Iso-alkanes with a branched end give less than 50% biomass as compared with the corresponding n-alkane. Thus, only about 20% biomass is formed from 8-methyl-pentadecane, as compared with the production on hexadecane as substrate with the same molecular weight. 

The exhaustive methylation of sparteine was reinvestigated by Karrer,. Shibata, Wettstein and Jacubowitz. At each stage they reduced the unsaturated product formed and so ended up with a pentadecane, C15H32 (b.p. 242°/729 mm., D] 0-7740, 1-43351). The object of this work...
