4-Methoxybenzenesulfonic acid

Sulfonation.2 This sulfate docs not react with benzene, but it has certain advantages for sulfonation of aryl ethers. Thus anisole is converted to trimethylsilyl 4-methoxybenzencsulfonatc in 92% yield. The product is hydrolyzed quantitatively to 4-methoxybenzenesulfonic acid without any catalyst. Thus it is more selective than sulfuric acid itself. [Pg.176]

Amides of 3- or 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid bearing dialkylaminoalkyl residues on the nitrogen atom lead to orange dyes for polyacrylonitrile or paper when coupled with diazotized aniline [20,21] or to red dyes, soluble in glycol ethers and useful for ink-jet printing, when coupled with diazotized 3-amino-4-methoxybenzenesulfonic acid AOV-dicthylam idc [22], and to substantive red dyes when the diazo component is a 2-(4 -aminophenyljbenzotriazole [23],... [Pg.230]

Bis(trimethylsilyl)sulfate 559, which is readily available from TCS 14 and H2SO4 in 76% yield [94], reacts on heating with anisole to form the trimethylsilyl ester of p-methoxybenzenesulfonic acid 1331 in 92% yield [95]. The hexamethyldi-siloxane (HMDSO) 7 and H2O formed are removed during the reaction by azeotropic distillation [95]. On heating of acetyl chloride with 559 the probable intermediate 1332 rearranges to give 1333 in 63% yield. The last reaction can be extended to other acid chlorides [95] (Scheme 8.37). [Pg.207]
