Methoxamine hydrochloride

The API methoxamine hydrochloride, which contains a benzyl hydroxyl, was found to decompose in aqueous solution to the primary degradation product 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde, presumably via a benzylic radical autoxidation pathway (Fig. 100) (142). 

Infra-red Spectrum. Principal peaks at wavenumbers 1496,1219, 1022,1276,1179,1050 (methoxamine hydrochloride, KBr disk).

Methoxamine hydrochloride affords an increase in arterial blood perssure through peripheral vasoconstriction. It is the drug of ehoice for the treatment of hypotensive conditions when it is required to boost-up blood pressure without any cardiae stimulation.
