Methoscopolamine

Geriatric Considerations - Summary Methoscopolamine is a peripheral anticholinergic drug that does not cross the blood-brain barrier so should cause less risk of psychosis and other central effects. Other anticholinergic side effects such as urinary retention and decreased bowel motility do occur and can limit the usefulness of this drug. [Pg.780]

Methoscopolamine bromide (Pamine) is a quaternary ammonium derivative of scopolamine and therefore lacks the central actions of scopolamine. It is less potent than atropine and is poorly absorbed however, its action is more prolonged, the usual oral dose (2.5 mg) acting for 6 to 8 h. Its use has been limited chiefly to gastrointestinal diseases. [Pg.207]

Synonyms. Epoxymethamine Bromide Hyoscine Methylbrom-ide Methoscopolamine Bromide Scopolamine Methylbromide. Proprietary Names. Holopon Pamine. [Pg.675]
