2 Methods Based on Reactions with the Participation of Macromolecules 

The methods based on reactions with the participation of macromolecules allow luminescent markers to be bonded to polymers and copolymers of the required composition, stereoregularity, molecular weight and molecular weight distribution, to samples of industrial polymers and to natural polymers. 

In each case, the choice of the type of reaction between the macromolecules of the polymer and anthracene-containing reagents is determined by many factors. The most important include  

The existence, nature and reactivity of functional groups in the polymer molecules. 

The existence of only one type of bonds between the macromolecule and the luminescent group. The formation of comparable amounts of different bonds affecting the optical and dynamic properties of LM in different ways can make difficult or prevent a quantitative interpretation of data obtained by the PL method.
