Method according to Borchardt and Daniels

The Borchardt and Daniels method [3-19] permits the calculation of activation energy E, frequency (pre-exponential) factor A, heat of reaction AH, and order of reaction n from a single DSC or DTA scan of a reaction isotherm. In principle it relies on a comparison between a partial area and the total area of an exothermic peak (Fig. 3-50). This will [Pg.70]

The method assumes that the reaction follows nth order kinetics i. e. obeys the relationship  [Pg.71]

Kt) specific rate constant at temperature T (reaction constant) s  [Pg.71]

Further, the method assumes that the temperature dependence of the reaction follows Arrhenius equation [Pg.71]

A plot of In versus 1 /T (Arrhenius plot) should be a straight line. The activation energy and the frequency factor can be obtained from the slope and the intercept respectively. [Pg.72]
