Seleno-DL-methionine ( 2-amino-4-methylselanylbutyric acid) [2578-28-1 ] M 196.1, m 265 (dec), 267-269 (dec), 270 . Crystallises in hexagonal plates from MeOH and H2O. [Klosterman and Painter JACS 69 2009 1949]. The L-Isomer is purified by dissolving in H2O, adjusting the pH to 5.5 with aqueous NH3, evaporating to near-dryness, and the residue is washed several times with absolute EtOH till solid is formed and then recrystd from Me2CO. It has m 266-268°(dec), 275°(dec), [a] -(-18.1°(c 1, N HCI). [Pande et al. JOC 35 1440 1970].
