Another program available form Lhasa Ltd. is Meteor, software that allows predicting metabolic pathways of xenobiotic compounds [13-15], Again, the program uses expert knowledge in form of rules to predict the metabolic pathway of compounds. The predictions are presented in metabolic trees, similar to a synthesis tree, and may be filtered according to the likelihood of metabolites.

In addition to software tools to help postacquisition processing, software tools to help mass spectral interpretation, particularly MS/MS, have taken new strides as well (Heinonen et al., 2008). One example of such a software tool is the MathSpec program. The details of the MathSpec approach have been explained (Sweeney, 2003). MathSpec software is used in conjunction with MS/MS spectra obtained under high-resolution conditions. The software systematically attempts to assemble possible parts (from the MS/MS fragment data) of the molecule into a rational molecule. Other examples of structure elucidation software include HighChem s Mass Frontier and ACD/Labs ACD/MS Manager (Bayliss et al., 2007). Other metabolite prediction software tools such as Meteor are also being incorporated into LC-MS software as tools to help accelerate metabolite detection and characterization (Testa et al., 2005 Ives et al., 2007). 

Meteor can be interfaced with the MetaboLynx mass spectrometer software from Waters Corporation to integrate mass spectrometry data from metabolism studies directly. MetaboLynx is part of the Waters MassLynx Application Managers, a suite of mass spectrometry instrument software [16]. It is designed for automated metabolism studies with data from LC/MS or LC/MS/MS time-of-flight (TOP) experiments. MetaboLynx is able to detect peaks in an LC/MS data file resulting from in vitro or in vivo biotransformation and provides a list of elemental formulae for unidentified components in a mass spectrum. Meteor uses these data to filter the list of predicted metabolites. System requirements are similar to DEREK for Windows.

In the French railway field, the use of formal methods, including the use of method B [ABR %], is increasingly common in the development of critical systems. The software of these safety systems (railway signaUng, automatic driving) must meet strict criteria for quality, reliability, and robustness. One of the first applications of these formal methods was done retrospectively on SACEM [GUI 90]. More recent projects, such as CTDC, KVS or SAET-METEOR [BEH 93 BEH 96], used method B throughout the development process (from the specifications to the code).
